May 30, 2021: YWCA WOMEN OF DISTINCTION FINALISTS!

Hello everyone, it's Sung and Erin! We want to share our experience of being finalists for the YWCA Young Woman of Distinction Award.

In March 2021, Mrs. Vuong reached out to us and said she wanted to nominate us for the YWCA Young Woman of Distinction Award. We were so honoured to be nominated, so first of all, we would like to give a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Vuong for nominating us for this incredible award. Mrs. Vuong has been so supportive of our journey by donating and helping us grow our initiative!

On April 28, 2021, Erin and I received an email congratulating us on being selected as finalists for the 2021 YWCA Regina Women of Distinction Awards in the Young Woman of Distinction category. The email informed us about our Photo and Video Day for our finalist video!

On May 2, 2021, Erin and I went for our Photo and Video Day. Everything was quite new to us as we are only 16! We were a bit nervous for the interview, however, the committee was so welcoming and comforting. Our finalist video can be found below!

Our biography can be found at: https://ywcaregina.com/distinction/finalists/

On May 28, 2021, we each received a finalist celebration box from YWCA Regina filled with products from local women run businesses as well as a certificate.

On May 29, 2021, the 2021 virtual Nutrien Women of Distinction Awards began at 7pm. The Awards Night was live and keynote speaker, Waneek Horn Miller, gave such an inspirational speech that evening. Although we were not the final recipient of the Young Woman of Distinction Award, listening to all the award winners was a pleasure, and overall, this whole process was an amazing experience for both of us. We are so honoured to be recognized for our work, and this experience will further motivate us to continue to contribute to our community.

We want to thank our family, friends, teachers and especially our community for helping us get to where we are. Being finalists of this huge award was not a recognition of just Erin and I, but a recognition of everyone's help and support. Also, we would like to show our appreciation for YWCA Regina for hosting this event and award; starting from the nomination, interview/photo&video shoot, celebration box, certificate and the amazing Awards Night.

Thank you everyone so much and we will continue to work hard to help out the community. Again, THANK YOU!!!
